Sleeping in airports isn’t just for the backpackers who want to cut costs by avoiding to stay at airport hotels. Everybody sleeps in an airport at some time in their journeys.
Delays, cancellations, and missed connections are very common these days. You will find hundreds of travelers stranded at airports. I slept countless times in several airports.
When I realize that my connecting flight will only start boarding in another 6 hours, I scour the entire airport looking for a nice and cozy sleeping spot. More often that not, the best spots are already taken by other travelers.
I had to resort to sleeping on a bench, a row of chairs, on top of my luggage, or even on the floor. But the best thing about spending a night at the airport is seeing how the other travelers from different parts of the world – young and old – deal with their sleep instinct. They come up with crazy positions or use the available props – or each other – to architect make-shift sleeping pads.
